Legends of the 20-J

These LEGENDS have been submitted for their outstanding contributions to the section and to the Marching Southerners.

Keith Farris
Marched: 1993 - 1998

On June 8, 2003, Morgan Keith Farris left us. Loving husband and father. Dedicated 20-J. Admired hero. Keith touched the lives of countless people while in Jacksonville. He was a role model to me and many others. Keith contained the perfect balance of leadership, friendship, brotherhood, talent, dedication, and charisma. No one will have an impact on as many people as Keith Farris. We celebrate everything he did for us, and we are forever thankful.

He is and will be missed forever. He is a LEGEND. Thank you, Keith.

Harold Summerville
Marched: 1956 - 1959

Harold, or Santa as he is known by Southerners of multiple generations, was one of the original 20-Js. Harold is the grandfather of all 20-J's. Every year he reminds of us of our true roots. His stories from the early days of Southerners are valuable to all 20-J's and all Marching Southerners.

In many ways, he is "our" creator...that makes him a LEGEND.

Jim Davis
Marched: 1971 - 1976, 1978 - 1979

Jim Davis came to JSU in the fall of 1971. He holds the 20-J record of having marched the most years: six years from 1971 - 1976; and two more years in 1978 - 1979. He was section leader from 1973 - 1975. Jim was also the 20-J player for the "Little Group" (a small ensemble of select Southerners members who would perform the Ballerina tune) in 1973 - 1975. After leaving JSU, he came back on several occassions to march the Troy game.

For his commitment to the section, Jim Davis is a LEGEND.

Michael Ahlschwede
Marched: 1996 - 2002, 2004 - 2006

Record holder for years marched (10), number of years as section leader (7), and for putting the whole "20-J nickname" racket on the map. Weed is a 20-J Legend in any age or era. His impact on the section, and on all Southerners, is one that will be hard to duplicate, impossible to supercede. His contributions to JSU Hardcorps also helped put that group on the map

For his commitment to the 20-Js, the Marching Southerners, JSU Bands, and the JSU Department of Music, Michael "Weed" Ahlschwede is a 20-J LEGEND.
